Bajram, destructive universe Thierry Bellefroid (interviews) in October 2010

Denis Bajram , born in 1970 has been recognized worldwide (1) with its head lumber in 6 volumes of anticipation " Universal War One ", published by Sun from 1998 to 2006. Beyond its capacity screenplay, this series has shown a technique of colorization in advance in the digital era (2).
Before that, the author had published two volumes of Cryozone Delcourt, another science fiction tale quality, written by Thierry Cailleteau (series Aquablue ). Refer to the comprehensive bibliography Bedetheque.
In this book of interviews River (240 pages anyway), Thierry Bellefroid was to meet a man of strong character and culture fruitful. It speaks well Comics course, but also much political religions and publishing environment. That's what makes the richness of the book, also lavishly illustrated.
It can be seen four major parts:
The first on childhood and adolescence until about page 63, although not the most interesting for fans, explains the qualities (and defects), although individuals of the author in the making: how it was formed in a strict Catholic upbringing, his passion for science fiction and his political connections with the extreme right, just like his leader ship invasive. This is these last two points that leave the reader more confused, even though we now understand better the difficult relations that could lead over time.
The many illustrations accompanying this part sometimes appear too. It was in fact not essential to me to reproduce as many drawings to understand how early childhood (not particularly outstanding though) and the evolution of the artist.
The second part concerns the training with Beaux Arts in Caen (2 years) and especially the art deco of Paris, which really allowed to specialize in he was already using computer technology. Here also are his work for the fanzines, including the Scarce and Groinge , where his character begins to assert itself as a leader (and annoy some).
During this period he met Jean-Marc Lainé , which opened the doors of publishing through the fanzine Scarce. Mathieu Lauffray too, buddy Art Deco and author of "Oath of amber" at the time who presents Guy Delcourt .
This will be the introduction to the project Cryozone .
The third part is devoted to the series Bajram: UW1 . The opportunity to talk about the relationship that unites its director since Mourad Boudjellal , and project editor in which he launched with his wife: " Quadrants solar " independent department editions Sun .
Finally, from page 171: "Misanthropy and entropy " Denis Bajram attempts to give us his vision / definition of the author, the media loves it (and cartoon computer), and the future of humanity in general. A really interesting part where the artist is Describing himself as a Shaman , develops a philosophy of life where the man is a servant of the divine powers: machines.
Examples of this connection, page 178: "For my part I think we create our replacements now. We'll make room for something else. Machines. The life forms digital-mechanical. There no reason for what does not become intelligent. These "beings" are repairable, immortal and will travel into space to colonize the solar system. "
or
, p.196: "(...) I am part of this second category (Shaman).
Some die (...) quickly the others survive and bring something big in the village: distance. They are outside. So where will they see the group (...) They are priests, shamans or witches ....
the question: So they live in the village square brackets? Bajram replies
"Yes, we offer them bananas they fulfill this function. We do this by buying my books and participating in copyright. And I'm shaman who predicts the future in return for it is the essence of science fiction. " (..)
Finally, the final stop on the proposed project during the happy couple formed by Denis and Valérie Mangin : "The three Christs " where Denis has developed a technique of colorization digital still more modern and natural (revolutionary?)
In short, a book can be a bit too chatty in its first part, but well worth a visit if only for the tribute he pays to a modern writer exceptional, and this, in his lifetime.
*: "The sequential illustration" designation used by Bajram in these interviews about the comic.
(1) Denis was approached by Joe Quesada, Marvel's literary editor in 2005 and its series is published UW1 English since 2009.
